Arusha: The Chief Executive Officer of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) Engineer Victor Seff has made a visit to inspect the progress of construction of roads leading to the stadium that will be used for the AFCON tournament in Arusha.
Engineer Seff said that the visit aimed to see the implementation stages of the 21.4-kilometer road project where work has already begun on the Essuri road section.
He said the government is committed to ensuring that the infrastructure is completed on time and added that areas that have not yet started are waiting to complete compensation procedures for citizens who will be affected by the project while the strategy is to continue talking to them to provide cooperation and allow work to continue without obstacles.
“The government’s goal is to ensure that these roads are completed by May 2027 so that they are ready before the AFCON tournament,” said Engineer Seff.

He said the project is being implemented using the Design and Build method, which is used when time is limited and all procurement steps have already been completed.
He said TARURA will continue to closely monitor to ensure that the contractor completes the work on time and to the required standards in line with the schedule of the major African Nations Championship.
He added that currently the Contractor M/s China Railway Construction Engineering Group has already started work where he has started with the 2.45 kilometer long Essuri road and a 100 meter long bridge will also be built.
As for the 2.75 kilometer Lendita road, Engineer Seff said the road will be built together with the bridge in the second phase of the project while the road is expected to be four lanes.
He added that the 6.5 kilometer Mateves road will be built in two parts where 5.5 kilometers will be two lanes and 1 kilometer will be four lanes.
The Chief Executive Officer said that the completion of the project will bring great success to the Institute by gaining experience in managing Design and Construction projects, while the citizens will benefit by overcoming the challenges of infrastructure in those areas.
He said that residents of the areas surrounding the project will be given priority for employment and urged young people to come forward to find jobs and use the opportunity to increase their income as well as work experience.
On the other hand, he urged the project managers to closely monitor its implementation as the competition is expected to begin in July next year.
Consulting Engineer from M/s Afrisa Construction Engineering Group Mr. Idephonce Karol said that the project officially started on April 01, 2026 and currently the initial stages are progressing well.
He said that they have already mobilized a team of experts to conduct surveys of all three road areas, soil surveys, assessment of construction materials as well as cleaning the 1.8 kilometer long Essuri road section.
“We are fully organized and we understand the importance of this project so we will work day and night to ensure it is completed on time,” said Karol.
