The government through the Office of the Prime Minister TAMISEMI has said that it will continue to build the budgetary capacity of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in order to speed up the construction of asphalt roads in phases across the country, a move aimed at improving infrastructure and stimulating economic growth.
The statement was made in parliament during the question and answer session by the Deputy Minister (EDUCATION) of the Office, Dr. Festo Dugange, on behalf of the Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister TAMISEMI, Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, while answering the question of the MP for Kigoma Mjini, Mr. Clayton Revocatus Chipando, who wanted to know the Government’s plan to increase the asphalt road network by increasing the budget.
“Kigoma-Ujiji Municipal Council until the financial year 2020/2021 was receiving a budget for the maintenance of roads and bridges totaling 1.6 billion shillings per year. From the financial year 2021/2022 to 2025/26 the budget increased to reach 3.2 billion shillings per year,” said Dr. Don’t wait
Explaining the steps taken, Dr. Dugange said the Government has increased the budget for the maintenance of roads and bridges, citing as an example the Municipal Council of Kigoma-Ujiji which received 1.6 billion shillings for the year 2020/2021 and increased to 3.2 billion shillings per year from 2021/2022 to 2025/26.
He said the Government in collaboration with the World Bank through the TACTIC Project (Tier I) continues to implement strategic projects including the construction of asphalt roads with a length of 9.4 kilometers, large rainwater ditches 5.4 kilometers, as well as the Main Light Market and the Katonga Fish Market in the Kigoma-Ujiji Municipality.
Dr. Dugange said that these efforts are part of the Government’s broad strategy to strengthen the capacity of TARURA so that it can manage and implement the construction of asphalt roads more efficiently throughout the country, a situation that will facilitate transport and transportation, increase business opportunities and improve the lives of citizens.
