Dar es Salaam: The Government has continued to take steps to strengthen the National Grid through the implementation of strategic projects for electricity transmission lines, which are expected to increase the capacity, stability and security of the country’s electricity system.
Speaking to journalists on June 28, 2026 at the National Grid System Management Center in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi (Mb), stressed the importance of timely completion of 400 kV transmission line projects, including Chalinze–Kinyerezi and Chalinze–Dodoma, explaining that it is the basis for continuing to strengthen the National Grid and ensure reliable access to electricity for the citizens and the production sectors.
“The completion of the 400 kV transmission line projects is an important step in strengthening the National Grid. The government will not be willing to see these projects delayed as they are the basis for reliable electricity supply to the citizens and for the development of the country’s economy,” he stressed.
In parallel with the implementation of these strategic projects, Minister Ndejembi has instructed TANESCO to continue strengthening the protection and control systems of the National Grid so that faults that may occur in one area do not affect the entire electricity distribution system in the country.
He said that following the fault that occurred in the National Grid on June 27, 2026 and caused the lack of electricity service in some areas in the country, the Minister has ordered the formation of an investigation committee that will include experts from the Ministry of Energy, the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) and security and defense agencies to determine the cause of the fault and recommend permanent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. The committee has been directed to submit an initial report within a week.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy in charge of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, said the Ministry will fully supervise the implementation of all instructions issued by the Minister, including the work of the committee to investigate and implement projects to strengthen the National Grid.
“We will strengthen the supervision of the implementation of the instructions of the Honorable Minister and closely monitor the projects of electricity transmission lines so that they are completed on time, a step that will increase the stability and efficiency of the National Grid,” said Engineer Mramba.
These steps reflect the Government’s commitment to continue investing in the improvement of the country’s electricity infrastructure, with the aim of increasing the stability of the National Grid, improving access to reliable electricity services and continuing to create an enabling environment for economic growth and national development.
