THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has handed over various medical equipment worth Shs. 162 million to Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam as part of TRA’s 30th anniversary celebrations and the presentation of the Presidential Awards for the Best Taxpayer expected to be given on July 1 this year in Mlimani City, Dar es Salaam.
Speaking during the handover of the equipment to the Hospital on June 28, 2026, TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda said they have decided to return to the community the tax contributions that citizens have contributed to help provide services.
He commended the investment in the buildings at the Hospital and explained that it is the fruits of taxes that have enabled these improvements while emphasizing that the support for the equipment is a step by TRA to return to the community from taxes collected and later returned to Tanzanians in various ways, including strengthening health services.
“We have come today because in July TRA will complete 30 years of work that Tanzanians have entrusted us with, thirty years of thanking the citizens who have greatly enabled our country to progress”, he said
He said TRA saw one way to thank Tanzanians is to give a little of what is available to the community, citing the equipment provided as 100 hospital beds, 10 delivery beds, a dialysis machine for kidney patients, a defibrillator and a ventilator.
Commissioner Mwenda commended President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the various efforts he continues to take in improving the health environment in the country, while urging heads of various institutions to encourage people to encourage people to pay taxes voluntarily.
He said that by doing so, the services provided by all hospitals in the country will improve and thus provide positive results, including protecting the health of all Tanzanians, not just the citizens of Dar es Salaam.
The medical officer in charge of Mwananyamala Regional Hospital, Dr. Aileen Balongo has thanked the TRA leadership for the support and stressed that it will go to support the provision of various services at the Hospital.
He said the Hospital, established in 1973, serves 250 patients daily, has a high need for medical equipment due to the presence of various health challenges facing the citizens, saying that the support will help reduce some of these challenges.
The Chief Medical Officer of Dar es Salaam, Dr. Mohammed Man’guna, apart from thanking TRA for the support, has also congratulated President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the major changes she continues to make in the health sector in the country, while urging citizens and Tanzanians in general to continue to support her.
