Tanzania and Singapore have signed an agreement to strengthen the economy and good governance

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Government of the Republic of Singapore have signed several agreements and documents of agreement with the aim of strengthening economic, administrative, environmental cooperation and the development of human resources, in a move that seems to further strengthen diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The agreement was signed on June 9, 2026 by various leaders from both sides, involving government institutions and the private sector, with a strong focus on preventing tax evasion and evasion, strengthening investment systems and increasing the efficiency of public administration management.

On the Tanzanian side, the agreements have been signed by leaders including the Minister of Finance and other government officials, while Singapore is represented by ministers and leaders of economic and development institutions.

Among the signed agreements is the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTA), a measure aimed at attracting foreign direct investment and strengthening the business environment between the two countries.

Other agreements concern cooperation in matters of good governance, building the capacity of public service professionals, as well as sharing experience in port management, water, air services and modern governance systems.

In the environment sector, both parties have agreed to cooperate in dealing with the effects of climate change, particularly through renewable energy projects, carbon management and the implementation of plans under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Also, the agreement involves cooperation in the development of small and medium industries (SMEs), strengthening of the production value chain, business facilitation, as well as promoting innovation, research and access to international markets.

In the investment and trade sector, Tanzania and Singapore have agreed to strengthen cooperation between the private sector, improve the business environment and increase investment opportunities in industrial areas, productive agriculture, transportation and infrastructure development.

The agreement also involves training and skills development programs, aimed at building the capacity of local professionals and strengthening the exchange of knowledge between institutions in Tanzania and Singapore, as part of a long-term strategy to develop human resources.

The move is said to be an important part of strengthening economic diplomacy between the two countries, while it is expected to open the doors to new investments, increase the productivity of various sectors and strengthen economic competition in the international market.

Overall, the agreement marks a new stage of strategic cooperation between Tanzania and Singapore, with a long-term vision of promoting an integrated economy, sustainable development and strong diplomatic relations.
