WAF-Dodoma: The government has announced significant progress in the fight against Malaria in the country with figures showing a 30% reduction in infections from 8.1% in 2022 to 5.7% in 2025.
The statement was made by the Chief Medical Officer of the Government, Dr. Grace Magembe, on April 25, 2026, through a statement on World Malaria Day as part of the celebrations of that day.
According to a statement by the Chief Medical Officer of the Government, issued to the media in Dodoma, Dr. Grace Magembe said the number of confirmed Malaria patients in health facilities has decreased by 53%, from six (6) million patients in 2020 to 2.8 million in 2025.
“In terms of patients admitted to hospitals, the number has decreased by 35%, while deaths from the disease have decreased by 50%”, said Dr. Magembe.
Dr. Magembe explained that these achievements are attributed to the Government’s significant investment in collaboration with various development partners, which has enabled improved access to free malaria drugs and services in public health facilities.
In addition, Dr. Magembe said that to continue these efforts, the Government has allocated 20 billion shillings for the financial years 2024/25 and 2025/26 for the spraying of biological insecticides on mosquito breeding sites in all 184 councils in the country.
Dr. Magembe said the Government is committed to implementing the Malaria Strategic Plan for 2026-2030 to ensure the disease is eradicated by 2030.
