📍KAHAMA: The government has asked the Chief Inspectors of Mines and Mine Managers in the country to be ambassadors of law enforcement, mining regulations and to be patriots in the mining business in order to increase the contribution of the sector to the national economy.
The call has been issued on April 24, 2026 in the Kahama, Shinyanga district by an expert from the Directorate of Inspection and Mineral Trade, the Minerals Commission, Engineer Erasmina Massawe on training for Managers and Chief Inspectors of small-scale mining that brought together participants from the mining regions of Kahama, Mbogwe and Shinyanga.
The training aimed at strengthening professional understanding, better management of mines, compliance with mining laws and regulations and promoting safe and sustainable mining.
He said that to learn methods to strengthen security in mines, the leaders should be part of the Government’s strategies to ensure that the mining business is carried out transparently and in accordance with the Mining Law and its regulations, a step that will help to control mining activities.
He said the Government through the Mining Commission has continued to implement various strategies to strengthen the management of the mineral business, including the improvement of the mineral business system, the establishment of markets and centers for the purchase of minerals, the presence of Resident Mining Officers in mining areas as well as the construction of the Mirerani wall which helped to control the escape of Tanzanite minerals.
He said the Government has strengthened the protection and monitoring of minerals by placing inspectors in important areas such as airports, ports, borders and in all mineral production areas, in parallel with managing the issuance of permits for the transport of minerals and the implementation of the tax law, including the exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) on some mining activities.
Speaking about the empowerment of Tanzanians to fully participate in the sector, Engineer Massawe said the improvements to the Rules for the Participation of Tanzanians in the Mining Sector have significantly increased the participation of Tanzanians in the supply of goods and the provision of various services in the mines.
“Currently there are many opportunities in the Mining Sector including food services, protection, protective equipment, legal services, construction and insurance. Tanzanians should use these opportunities to increase their income and grow the country’s economy”, he said
He said that the mining stakeholders in the country should use the best laboratory of the Mining Commission in Dar es Salaam for the testing of their minerals and mineral samples in order to conduct reliable mineral trading.
The training is part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen the management of small-scale mining and ensure that mineral resources bring wide benefits to the people and the Nation as a whole.
