Digital VISA system and enhanced security in the country

President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has advised the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the system of issuing visas digitally so that the service is quickly available to foreigners entering the country.

President Dr. Mwinyi said this on April 24, 2026, when he met with the Minister of Internal Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Patrobas Katambi who arrived at the Palace in Zanzibar to introduce himself.

President, Dr. Mwinyi said that for a long time there has been a problem of obtaining visas through the internet system (online), something complained about by many tourists entering the country and causing them to spend a long time getting the service at the airports.

He said the move will increase efficiency and control the loss of money resulting from the use of cash.

He said the existence of a digital system is a necessary issue in issuing visas, and urged the Ministry to take immediate steps to eliminate the problem.

President Dr. Mwinyi said another issue that should be prioritized by the Department of Immigration is accountability at airports, as well as strengthening the delivery of services quickly by having enough manpower all the time and being responsible more efficiently.

Along with that, President Dr. Mwinyi said the Police Force will strengthen security in tourist areas to control crime incidents and increase efforts to conduct quick investigations when incidents occur and establish a good procedure for providing information to the public.

Speaking on the issue of road safety, he said that additional efforts are needed to strengthen the implementation of road safety laws due to non-compliance with those laws, a situation that contributes to the increase in road accidents.

He said the strengthening of efforts to fight against sexual harassment, a problem he described as serious in this country.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Patrobas Katambi, assured the President Dr. Mwinyi that the Ministry will continue to carry out its duties with obedience and trust in accordance with the Constitution, laws and policies of the country, and has promised to receive and act on all the instructions given as a vision for implementation.
