Ambassador CP Kaganda Condemns Child Abuse

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Commissioner of Police (CP) Suzan Kaganda, has led a fundraising drive to support the renovation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT)—specifically the Ndala Congregation, under the Eastern District of the West-Central Diocese—located in Nzega District, Tabora Region. During the event, she emphasized the importance of proper child upbringing and the need to combat gender-based violence within the community.

The fundraiser took place on October 26, 2026, at the church, situated in Ndala Ward. Its objective was to raise funds for major renovations, including the installation of a new roof and improvements to both the interior and exterior of the house of worship.

Speaking at the event, CP Kaganda stressed that society has a duty to raise children grounded in sound religious principles and moral values. She further urged the protection of children from all forms of abuse—particularly gender-based violence—to foster a society characterized by strong ethics and respect for the rights of every individual.

Additionally, she called upon the community to return to God and to continue praying for the nation and its leaders, so that they may carry out their responsibilities with wisdom and integrity, ultimately bringing development and prosperity to the citizens. For his part, the representative of the Tabora Regional Police Commander—who also serves as the Head of the Tabora Regional Traffic Police Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Peter Magayane—urged parents and guardians to take the lead in promptly reporting incidents of gender-based violence to the relevant authorities, ensuring that appropriate legal action is taken against the perpetrators.

During the fundraising event, CP Kaganda made a contribution that helped bring the total amount raised for the cause to over 70 million shillings.

Speaking on behalf of the Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Central Western Diocese, Pastor Patrick Katembo expressed gratitude to CP Kaganda and all the participants for their contributions. He further pledged that the church would continue to collaborate with the Police Force to maintain peace, prevent crime, and build a society grounded in sound moral values.
