Government Meets with LNG Investors

Dar es Salaam: The Minister of Energy, Dr. Juma Zuberi Homera, has held discussions with executives from international companies involved in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing project to be implemented in the Lindi Region. He assured them that the Government will continue to collaborate with these companies to ensure the commencement of this project, which holds significant benefits for the nation.

Dr. Homera held these discussions on October 22, 2026, at the Ministry of Energy’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam, with company representatives including Menno Bax, Executive Director and Chair of Shell, and Hilde Merete Nafstad, Vice President of Equinor Tanzania.

He stated that the Government is actively working to ensure the project gets underway, as it is a key initiative that will contribute to the availability of sufficient energy in the country, while also supporting the realization of the goals set out in the National Development Vision 2050.

“We all recognize the importance of this project to the country’s development—including through industrial growth, job creation, increased national revenue, and the provision of social services to communities surrounding the project area—so our goal is to see it implemented,” said Dr. Homera. Furthermore, he urged the project partners to ensure that local citizens are involved in the various stages of its implementation and that they benefit through social development projects carried out in the areas surrounding the project site.

In this regard, he commended the construction of the Likong’o Primary School—a joint initiative by Shell, Equinor, and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC)—located in Likong’o Village, Lindi Region, where the project is set to be implemented.

Separately, representatives from Shell and Equinor stated that their companies would continue to collaborate with the Government throughout the various preparatory phases of the project, noting that it holds significant benefits for both Tanzania and the companies involved in the investment.

The LNG project, slated for implementation in the Lindi Region, involves international companies—Shell, Equinor, ExxonMobil, Pavilion Energy, and MedcoEnergi—in partnership with the Government of Tanzania through the TPDC, with an investment totaling 42 billion US dollars.
