The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy in charge of Oil and Natural Gas, Dr. James Mataragio has called on citizens to use clean energy for cooking as part of the implementation of the National Vision 2050 which aims to promote the use of clean energy that is safe and sustainable.

Dr. Mataragio made the statement on April 21, 2026, when he visited the TANESCO pavilion on clean energy for cooking with electricity at the ongoing Energy Week exhibition at the Bunge grounds, in Dodoma.

He said the Government continues to focus on promoting the use of clean energy including electricity to protect the health of citizens and the environment in general, commending TANESCO for its efforts to educate and encourage citizens to use electricity for cooking.

“The Energy Budget is expected to be read in Parliament, among the things we are implementing in our Budget is the National Vision 2050, there is a feature of clean cooking energy and in general our institutions including TANESCO are promoting the use of clean cooking energy with electricity”, explained Dr. Mataragio.

Member of Parliament from Manyara, Mrs. Justina Rahhi, has praised the technology of electric stoves that use less energy, explaining that they have the ability to reduce the use of charcoal and firewood.

“I have learned that these stoves use very little electricity compared to charcoal. It is important that this technology reaches rural residents so that they can benefit from the use of clean energy,” said Rahhi

Special Seats Member of Parliament from Ruvuma region, Mrs. Mariam Nyoka, has commended the improvement of electricity service in the Southern Highlands regions, explaining that this situation will help increase the use of clean energy.
