The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), on December 16, 2025, has seized a large consignment of contraband cooking oil, totaling 23,755 ‘dumu’, which was being illegally imported into the country through Kunduchi Port, in Dar es Salaam.
The Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, spoke immediately after the exercise and explained that these contraband products have become a threat to the country’s economy as they reduce government revenue and undermine the growth of local industries.
He said these products, which do not undergo inspection by the relevant authorities, can be dangerous to the health of consumers, so it is the responsibility of everyone to participate in preventing this illegal trade.
