📍 Coast: The Minister for Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi, has said that the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) continues to implement strategic projects for the production, transmission and distribution of electricity with great efficiency, a step that enables the nation to move forward in building a strong system for access to electricity.
Mr. Ndejembi said on November 27, 2025, during an inspection of the construction project for the 400 kilovolt transmission line from Chalinze to Dodoma where he wanted to see the work completed on time and to the required standards.
Mr. Ndejembi said the major project is being implemented with local funds and until its completion will cost approximately 556 billion shillings.
“I order TANESCO to continue to supervise the Contractor to ensure that the work is completed according to schedule. We do not want to reach the end of the implementation and find the project has been handed over incomplete,” stressed Minister Ndejembi.
He said TANESCO has been directed to meet with the Contractor to prepare a new work plan that will show the step-by-step monitoring strategies for the completion of the important project for the nation.
Minister Ndejembi said the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is giving a great push to ensure that electricity reaches citizens across the country on time and with the required quality.
TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, said Tanzania has enough electricity from its production sources and the major work currently underway is to deliver the electricity to the production areas and deliver it to the citizens and investors.
Mr. Twange said the Government has completed the construction of large power receiving and cooling stations in Dodoma and Chalinze which will be the hub for transporting electricity from the Julius Nyerere Power Project (JNHPP) and other sources to various parts of the country.
“The Dodoma power receiving station is an important junction that receives electricity from various areas, and is also the one that connects us with our colleagues in Kenya”, said Mr. Twange
He said all these steps are important in ensuring the nation has a robust electricity system that meets the needs of the present and future generations.
