Employees must work professionally

PRIMARY MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa has said that Government drivers are responsible for working professionally and with high discipline, including inspecting vehicles before and after trips, filling out and maintaining trip and maintenance records.

He has urged drivers and managers to ensure the safety of transport vehicles, passengers, cargo and Government documents as well as using modern security equipment, and refrain from behaviors that could endanger lives, property and Government secrets.

He said this today (Tuesday, September 2, 2025) when he opened the Government Drivers Association of Tanzania (CMST) Conference, in Dodoma.

He said the association has been an important pillar in improving government driver services and contributing to the development of the country as a whole.

The Prime Minister has also assured the drivers that the Government continues to work on various challenges facing drivers to continue to improve the working environment and welfare of Government drivers across the country.

“The challenges you have presented are a continuation of the great work ahead of us, and with the cooperation between the Government, Employers and the Drivers Association, we will continue to move forward with concrete steps to improve this important cadre for the benefit of our Nation.”

Also, the Prime Minister has urged employers to ensure that drivers’ entitlements are paid on time, regular training is carried out, employment structures are implemented properly and they are given priority in various incentives.

For his part, the Minister of Works, Abdallah Ulega said that drivers are an important pillar in the implementation of the daily responsibilities of the Government and discipline and integrity are the basis of the respect of the cadre.

“We, the Government, will ensure that the welfare of drivers is our priority, if they live well, it means that they will do their jobs with great efficiency,” he said.

Minister Ulega said the aim of the meeting is to discuss challenges and exchange experiences and strengthen solidarity.

And, the Secretary General of CMST, Castro Nyabange, said that the party sincerely congratulates His Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for various measures to improve the welfare of public servants including drivers.

“The salary increase for civil servants has also affected us drivers, previously we Government drivers had very low salaries, we promise to work side by side with the Government by focusing on professionalism in performance”, he said

The meeting with the theme “Government Driver, Avoid Accidents, Protect Your Car and Other Road Users and Participate in the General Election in October”, he said

was attended by more than 2,500 Government drivers from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
