The French Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms. Anne Sophie Ave, has visited and inspected the Solar Power Project located in Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region.
Ambassador Ms. Anne visited yesterday and witnessed the rapid progress of the implementation of the Project which has so far reached 67%.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Ms. Annie said the purpose of the visit is to see the implementation of Tanzania’s development projects which are funded by the European Union including France and the French Development Agency.
“The main reason for me to come here is to see the development projects that the European Union and the French Development Agency are funding, including this solar power project here in Kishapu”, She said
She continued to say that he has seen the productivity of this project for the citizens but he has also seen the value of the money we have provided, the work is good and the workers here are working hard and dedicated.
She asked them to continue to contribute so that this project is completed on time and Tanzanians can have electricity.
Kishapu District Commissioner, Mr. Peter Masindi said that through the funding of the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD), an amount of 323 billion shillings has been spent.
He said that the solar power project will have the capacity to generate 150 Megawatts and urged Tanzanians to be ready to use the electricity for the development of their economy and the nation in general.
TANESCO Projects Director, Engineer Timothy Mgaya said that the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD) have funded various electricity projects through the Tanzanian Government.
He mentioned some of the projects as Kakono, the Tanzania-Zambia Interconnection Project (TAZA), the Tanzania-Uganda Interconnection Project and has also shown interest in continuing to fund other electricity projects.
He thanked the Government for continuing to invest in electricity projects that will enable reliable electricity supply and thus enable Tanzania to implement a strategy for the use of clean electricity for cooking.
