JAB: The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, has officially introduced the Journalists Accreditation Board (JAB) to Parliament and noted that in carrying out its duties for the 2025/26 Financial Year, it will start by providing training through the Journalists Training Fund.
Minister Kabudi made the introduction on May 07, 2025 in Parliament in Dodoma while presenting the Ministry’s Budget for the 2025/2026 Financial Year.
“The Information Services Act, Chapter 229 currently provides for the establishment of a Journalists’ Accreditation Board. I would like to inform your esteemed Parliament that the Board has already been established and was officially launched on March 03, 2025 and has commenced its work. This Board is headed by a seasoned and veteran journalist, Mr. Tido Mhando”, said Minister Kabudi.
Minister Kabudi said that apart from the primary responsibilities of the Journalists’ Accreditation Board which is to oversee the ethics of journalists and professional standards in news writing, it will also oversee the Journalists’ Training Fund.
“The Journalists’ Training Fund aims to facilitate training for journalists, support the production of local content and also facilitate research on issues of journalism and public communication,” said Minister Kabudi.
He said that in order to facilitate the implementation of all these responsibilities including the production of local content, the Fund under the Board will begin to assist journalists with modern equipment to enable them to fully participate in producing local content.
Minister Kabudi said that in the 2025/26 financial year, the Ministry will continue with its responsibilities of managing the Information Sector to ensure that it continues to grow and make a significant contribution to the Nation and to ensure that Tanzanians receive accurate and professionally processed information by qualified journalists.
