Ruvuma: The Minister of Energy, Dr. Juma Zuberi Homera, participated in the “Site Trust Clean Energy Marathon 2026,” held on October 24, 2026, in Namtumbo District, Ruvuma Region. The event aimed to promote the use of clean cooking energy and to raise funds to improve healthcare services at the Namtumbo District Hospital.
Through the marathon, a total of 102 million shillings was raised for the procurement of medical equipment, which will help enhance medical services and increase the hospital’s capacity to serve the public.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Homera stated that the Government is actively implementing the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy (2024–2034), which aims to ensure that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034.
He emphasized that the use of clean energy will help protect the health of the citizens and preserve the environment. He commended TANESCO, the Rural Energy Agency (REA), the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA), the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), and other stakeholders for their participation in the success of the marathon and for promoting the use of clean cooking energy.
In furtherance of these efforts, REA has provided 1,000 clean energy cooking units—including gas stoves, improved cookstoves, and electric stoves—to raise awareness and encourage the public to adopt these technologies.
While visiting the TANESCO and REA booths at the marathon venue, Dr. Homera urged these institutions to develop strategies to increase the use of clean energy in the country, including the establishment of installment payment schemes that would enable citizens to access clean energy technologies at an affordable cost.
