The First Lady of Zanzibar who is also the Chairperson of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF) and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Mama Mariam Mwinyi, has met with a delegation of Development Partners led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zanzibar, Ms. Dorothy Temu Usiri, at State House Migombani on July 10, 2026 to discuss areas of cooperation that will contribute to boosting the economy of the people through the seaweed sector and other development opportunities.
At the meeting, the parties discussed strategies to strengthen the seaweed value chain through the production of quality seeds, conservation of genetic resources, building farmers’ capacity, developing innovation and research, as well as adding value to seaweed products to increase productivity, employment and competitiveness of Zanzibar in international markets.
In addition, they agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation, United Nations agencies and other development stakeholders through the implementation of joint projects that will benefit citizens, especially women and youth, and contribute to the growth of the blue economy and the sustainable development of Zanzibar.
