Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila continues to strengthen reconstructive surgery services by providing modern skin grafting services, which aim to help heal large wounds quickly and restore the quality of life for patients.
The service helps patients with large wounds resulting from accidents, diabetes, major bruises, burns and those who have been bedridden for a long time and have wounds or injuries.
MNH-Mloganzila Chief Surgeon, Dr. David Antanamsu, said the service involves various modern reconstructive surgery techniques depending on the type of wound.
He said skin grafting involves taking a thin piece of skin from another part of the body and transplanting it into the wound, with the area from which the skin was removed healing within about two weeks.
For wounds on the face, head and joints, tissue expansion is used to expand the existing skin to cover the affected area, while flaps and skin transfer are used for patients with other types of large wounds that require tissue or skin transplantation along with blood vessels to speed up healing.
Dr. Antanamsu has urged citizens with long-term wounds not to delay seeking treatment, emphasizing that the condition is treatable using modern methods available at MNH-Mloganzila.
The Reconstructive Surgery Clinic offers services every Monday to Friday from 2:00 am to 10:00 pm, and that these treatments help the patient recover quickly, reduce long-term pain, reduce medical costs and significantly improve the patient’s quality of life.
