The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commended the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for its performance and efficiency in tax collection management in the country, which has increased tax compliance in line with the increase in tax collections in the 2025/26 financial year.
The commendations were given by the IMF delegation, led by Mr. Nicolas Blancher, when they held talks with the TRA leadership under the Deputy Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Mcha Hassan Mcha on May 04, 2026 at the Authority’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
During the talks, the IMF delegation led by Mr. Blancher said that TRA has been doing a good job and with great efficiency, which has led to stability in tax collection and the elimination of complaints from taxpayers, which is commendable.
In the talks, the IMF delegation said it is ready to collaborate with TRA in building the capacity of its staff in various fields including tax administration in the production and industrial sectors and in looking at the best way to formalize the informal sector.
The IMF will also enable TRA to provide training on the operation of Customs laboratories as well as the implementation of a strategic plan to increase tax compliance.
On the part of TRA, Deputy Commissioner General Mr. Mcha Hassan Mcha has thanked the IMF and explained that the collaboration will be productive for TRA by increasing the skills of its staff so that they can continue to provide better services to taxpayers.
Deputy Commissioner General Mcha has said that the area of ​​capacity building for TRA staff will be highly productive and that the IMF has had a good relationship with TRA for a long time now, which has shown productivity in the implementation of its duties.
