The Deputy Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Mcha Hassan Mcha has stressed the importance of ethics, accountability and transparency in the country’s tax collection system, explaining that integrity is the basis for increasing taxpayer confidence and increasing national revenue.
Speaking on May 07, 2026 at an ethics training for tax consultants aimed at promoting ethics and providing quality services, Mr. Mcha said tax consultants have made a significant contribution to the success of revenue collection in the country.
Mr. Mcha said an environment with ethics and accountability builds trust between taxpayers, tax consultants and TRA, while warning that the lack of integrity leads to a decrease in public confidence and ultimately a decrease in national revenue.
“Without integrity, there is no tax, without tax there is no development and without development there is no nation. It is our duty to prioritize the interests of the nation by working professionally and adhering to the established laws, regulations and procedures,” said Mr. Mcha
Mr. Mcha said TRA has continued to strengthen tax collection systems using information and communication technology (ICT), noting that the success of these systems cannot be achieved without the close cooperation of tax consultants.
He said the training has come at the right time as it will help the Government in implementing the development vision through a better tax system that focuses on ethics, transparency and the correct use of digital systems.
He said TRA will continue to collaborate with tax consultants because building a strong tax system is not the responsibility of TRA alone but of all stakeholders committed to protecting the interests of the Nation.
“It is important to remember that every shilling collected by TRA is used by the Government to bring about economic development and improve the lives of citizens,” stressed Mr. Mcha
The Director of the TRA Home Affairs Department, Mr. Shaibu Mmari, said the aim of the seminar is to discuss in detail the issues of trust, ethics and conduct expected of tax consultants as well as TRA employees.
He said the training also aims to build capacity on the income assessment system and evaluate the conduct of TRA staff to ensure that the tax system is fair, transparent and highly ethical.
