📍MOROGORO: The Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde has said that within the past four years, the Mining Sector has attracted investments of 9 trillion shillings, a move that places Tanzania as an attraction for Mining investment in Africa.
He said this, on August 15, 2026, in Morogoro Region during the signing ceremony of the Kinyeh Mining Joint Venture Agreements between the Government and Henan Yudi Mining Company, adding that so far a total of 14 Basic Agreements have been signed.
He said the project has proven reserves of about 104.28 million tons of kinye, and is expected to invest about 100 million dollars (265 billion shillings) with full-scale production targeting 50,000 tons of kinye per year and that the project will have the capacity to process one million tons per year at the same time more than 600 Tanzanians are expected to gain direct employment.
Mavunde said the Government continues to strengthen its position in the mining sector from being a mining host to being a participant in the value generated where in the project the Government owns 17% of the shares.
He said kinye is an important mineral in modern technologies, including the production of battery anodes so the project has the opportunity to contribute to Tanzania’s ambition to participate more in the global kinye value chain.
Morogoro District Commissioner, Mr. Mussa Kilakala said the District Government appreciates the efforts made to achieve the agreement, explaining that the project is expected to open up economic opportunities and employment, increase mineral production and stimulate the development of the mining sector and the national economy.
The Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Hon. Chen Mingjian, has commended all parties involved in the discussions, saying that the project will increase commercial investment in the country, stimulate economic development and strengthen long-term cooperation between Tanzania and China.
Ambassador Chen said China is among the leading countries in direct investment in Tanzania, explaining that the project adds another area of commercial cooperation between the two countries and opens up employment opportunities and economic development for the project area and the nation as a whole.
