Dodoma: The Mining Commission has continued to strengthen mining inspections in the country to ensure that all mining activities are carried out in compliance with the law, worker safety, occupational health and environmental protection, a move aimed at building a productive and sustainable mining sector.
Speaking at the ongoing Nanenane Exhibition in Dodoma, Geologist and Mine Inspector from the Mining Commission, Mr. Paschal Juma, said the Directorate of Mines and Environment Inspection under its Director, Engineer Hamisi Kamando is responsible for supervising and monitoring all mining activities to ensure they comply with the Mining Act, regulations, policies and various guidelines of the sector.
He said the Directorate conducts safety and health inspections at the workplace, monitors the implementation of environmental management plans, the restoration of mined areas as well as mine construction plans based on standards that protect the environment and ensure that mineral resources are used for the benefit of current and future generations.
He said the Directorate reviews and approves mining plans, mine performance reports and mine infrastructure designs, while overseeing the safe use of gunpowder in accordance with the Gunpowder Act, Chapter 45, and its regulations.
Mr. said the Mining Commission uses the Nanenane Exhibition as a platform to educate citizens, miners and industry stakeholders on the proper use of protective equipment, safe mining methods, environmental protection as well as the safe storage and use of gunpowder.
He said the education aims to increase stakeholder awareness, strengthen compliance with laws and safety standards, reduce mining accidents and develop the mining sector that contributes to the growth of the national economy in a sustainable manner.
