Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila has continued to strengthen its expertise and services by providing weight loss services through a balloon (Intragastric Balloon) where more than 186 people have benefited from the service since it began being provided at the hospital in November, 2022.
Speaking about the service, Surgeon, Eric Muhumba said the service has become a safe and effective solution for people with overweight challenges.
According to Dr. Muhumba, Muhimbili-Mloganzila has continued to improve the service by using modern technologies as well as involving nutrition and exercise experts to ensure patients receive integrated services that enable them to reach and maintain a healthy weight.
He said the service has attracted people from within and outside Tanzania due to its quality, where so far the hospital has provided the service to patients from various countries including South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Malawi.
He added that the hospital is in the final stages of introducing new weight loss services using injections and pills.
In addition to the balloon weight loss service, Dr. Muhumba said that Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila continues to provide various specialist and specialized surgical services, including small-bore surgery, throat cancer surgery, pancreatic cancer as well as reconstructive surgery.
