The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has thanked the Government of India for continuing to strengthen its cooperation with Zanzibar in various sectors of economic and social development.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this today, June 30, 2026, when he met with the Indian Ambassador to Tanzania, Hon. Bishwadip Dey, and his delegation, who arrived at the State House in Zanzibar for talks.
During the talks, President Dr. Mwinyi commended the investments made by Indian investors and private institutions in the country and expressed Zanzibar’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with India in technical education and vocational training.
He praised the contribution of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, IIT Madras Zanzibar, in providing professional education and training, as well as bringing about reforms in the Information and Communication Technology sector. IIT Madras Zanzibar is the first international campus of the institution outside India.
Ambassador Bishwadip Dey has presented President Dr. Mwinyi with an official invitation from the Vice President of the Republic of India, Hon. C. P. Radhakrishnan, to visit India in July 2026. During the visit, President Dr. Mwinyi is also expected to visit the headquarters of IIT Madras in Chennai.
Similarly, Ambassador Dey has assured the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar that India will continue to strengthen cooperation with Zanzibar in various development sectors for the benefit of both parties.
