PBZ Bank urged to invest more in technology and AI

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has urged the People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) to continue investing in modern technologies, financial system security, product and service innovation, as well as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to increase efficiency and competitiveness in service delivery.

Speaking on June 30, 2026, at the 60th Anniversary of PBZ held at the Golden Tulip Zanzibar Airport Hotel, President Dr. Mwinyi congratulated the bank on its success in digital services and urged it to increase its efforts to be among the best banks in the country.

He urged PBZ to strengthen its capital, continue to develop financial products and services, empower youth and women economically, invest in human resources, strengthen good governance and risk management, as well as continue to collaborate with the Government in the implementation of development projects.

President Dr. Mwinyi said the 15.3 billion shilling dividend paid by PBZ to the Government demonstrates the bank’s strength and its contribution to national development, while expressing his expectations of seeing PBZ become “The People’s Bank and the People’s Choice” with quality, innovation and a greater contribution to the economic growth of Zanzibar and Tanzania in general.
