Tabora: The Government has enabled the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to obtain $65 million for the implementation of road infrastructure maintenance through the Emergency Response Capital (CERC) fund.
This was stated by TARURA Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Victor Seff during a visit by members of the Agency’s Advisory Board to the construction project of a 22-meter bridge and 290-meter access roads on the 20.2km Ndovelwa road in Tabora Municipality.
Engineer Seff said the funds are a soft loan from the World Bank issued following an assessment of the damage to infrastructure caused by the 2024 El-Nino rains.
He said the assessment identified many damaged road areas that required urgent repairs to restore communication and services to the public.
“These projects are being implemented nationwide and on average their implementation has reached 70 percent. All work is expected to be completed by September 2026”, He said
He said the projects are being implemented by local contractors while emphasizing that TARURA Managers and supervisors in the country should increase supervision to ensure that projects are completed to the required standards.
Speaking about the construction of the bridge, Engineer Seff said he was satisfied with the quality of the ongoing work and emphasized that the infrastructure being built should be durable and passable at all times to enable citizens to reach markets, schools and transport agricultural inputs.
For her part, the Vice Chairperson of the TARURA Advisory Board, Ms. Nunu Mangu, said the construction of the bridge and roads will help open up communication for citizens of the relevant areas and ensure reliable transportation throughout the year.
She also urged citizens to maintain the infrastructure being built since the Government through TARURA continues to invest a lot of money to improve infrastructure in the country.
