PBPA must import sufficient fuel and store it as reserves

The Minister of Energy, Mr. Deogratius Ndejembi has urged the Joint Fuel Import Agency (PBPA) to ensure that there is sufficient fuel reserves in the country with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of production, transportation and other essential services that depend heavily on this fuel.

Mr. Ndejembi said on November 25, 2025 in Dar es Salaam at the PBPA offices as a continuation of his visit to talk to leaders of institutions under the Ministry of Energy.

He said the instructions to PBPA to ensure that fuel reserves in the country are sufficient as it will help avoid sudden shortages that can lead to increased costs for the public and the private sector and the lack of such services.

“Sufficient fuel reserves through investment in storage facilities bring economic stability to the Nation because when there is certainty of fuel availability, production, transportation and trade activities continue without restrictions and this increases investor confidence, reduces emergency costs, and ultimately promotes sustainable economic growth”, Mr. emphasized. Ndejembi

He has urged PBPA leaders to ensure that they invest more in strengthening fuel receiving and storage infrastructure to improve the safety and quality of products in the broader national interest.

He said the agencies should collaborate with private sector stakeholders in the fuel supply chain with the aim of ensuring the availability of fuel storage facilities to eliminate fuel delays or unexpected shortages.

Presenting a performance report, the Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Fuel Import Agency, Mr. Erasto Simon said that in ensuring efficiency in performance, PBPA is prepared to integrate systems that will help provide comparable prices at all ports to bring efficiency in fuel distribution.

During the visit, Mr. Ndejembi was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba and other experts from the Ministry of Energy.
