The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office, RALGM, in charge of Infrastructure, Engineer Rogatus Mativila, has asked the contractor JUIN Company Ltd, which is repairing the 56-kilometer Nyamwage-Tawi-Kikobo road to gravel grade in Rufiji district, Coast region, to ensure that it works day and night to complete the project on time.
Engineer Mativila said yesterday while reviewing the progress of the implementation of the Nyamwage-Tawi-Kikobo road where its implementation has reached 35%.
“This project has been delayed and the rains are coming, in the current situation, if it starts to rain, the work will not be done, what I insist on before the rains start, the Contractor should work day and night so that the work is completed on time, I also ask TARURA to closely monitor so that this road can be passed”, he said
Engineer Mativila has thanked President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for increasing TARURA’s budget from 275 billion shillings to 700 billion shillings for improving district road infrastructure so that they can support economic and social activities.
TARURA Coast Region Manager, Engineer Ibrahim Kibasa said they have planned to ensure the implementation of all ongoing works for the 2024/25 financial year is completed, where he has called on all Contractors implementing TARURA’s works in the Coast Region, especially those who have been delaying work, to return to the “site” to complete the works.
“We ask the Contractors to work as per the contracts because otherwise we can take disciplinary action against them, we cannot tolerate works not being completed on time, we will be with them shoulder to shoulder to ensure that we closely monitor those works as the Deputy Secretary General instructed us”, he said
Giving a report on the project, the Rufiji District TARURA Manager, Engineer Nicholaus Ludigery said the project is in two phases, the rehabilitation of the 28km Nyamwage-Tawi road at a gravel level worth 1,163,543,000 shillings, implementation has reached 35% and the rehabilitation of the Nyamwage-Tawi-Kikobo road worth 998,780,000 shillings, implementation has reached 5%.
He said the completion of the road will help access social services such as education and health and also stimulate economic activities such as trade and agriculture as the people of those areas are engaged in the cultivation of cashew nuts, sesame, oranges, cassava and coconuts where the road will help increase the income of individual citizens and the Rufiji district as a whole.
