Government introduces 60 new ‘Mwendokasi’ buses after public complaints

PRIME MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa has said the Government has decided to introduce 60 new buses on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route from Kimara to Kivukoni, which had 30 operating buses, to address the existing shortage of vehicles.

He said this number will make the route have 90 buses which will largely help eliminate the transport problem that has existed in the recent past.

He said this on October 02, 2025 when he made a visit to inspect the status of the provision of transport services by bus rapid transit (BRT) on the Kivukoni to Kimara route in Dar es Salaam.

“Your government, after allowing private companies, has seen us take 60 buses from the Mofat company to enter this road and they have started providing services today, our goal is to eliminate the issue of transportation on this route”, he said

The Prime Minister has instructed UDART and DART to ensure that they manage the use of electronic cards in the payment of fares instead of using cash (Cash) to control the loss of revenue in this transportation.

“And we have ordered that these cards should not be for these buses alone, we want them to be used at football stadiums, Azam Marine transportation, SGR, bus stations, Honorable Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Honorable Jerry Silaa, we want this to be completed quickly”, said the Prime Minister

Mr. Majaliwa has instructed the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila and the Dart Institute to ensure that they fully manage this transportation to reduce the inconvenience of traveling by these buses, in Dar es Salaam city.

Also, Mr. Majaliwa has called on citizens to trust the Government that it will ensure that the inconvenience of travel on these routes will be significantly reduced to eliminate the problem of transport in Dar es Salaam.

“These incidents, believe us, are now over”, he said

Speaking about the improvements, one of the passengers said that the transport that day has been satisfactory and they travel on time.

“Today, the transport has been good and the vehicles have arrived on time”, said one of the ‘Mwendokasi’ users
