The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila, has urged the District Commissioners of Ilala, Temeke and Kigamboni, Council Directors and experts in the City to be creative, especially in addressing the challenges of traffic congestion and queues.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on July 11, 2025 at a working session of the leaders, he said that in order for Dar es Salaam to strengthen economically and continue to be an attraction for visitors and tourists from various countries in the world, traffic congestion and queues must be eliminated.

At the session which brought together the District Commissioners of Ilala and Kigamboni, the directors of the councils, the Regional Administrative Secretary and experts from TANROAD, TARURA and the Port Authority TPA, Mr. Chalamila said that a permanent solution should be found to the challenge of traffic congestion, especially trucks, to avoid the current inconvenience.

Mr. Chalamila has asked the Council directors to collaborate with experts as well as local and ward executives to use friendly methods to educate citizens, especially women who sell food on the streets, to know the importance of caring for the environment and to stop cooking food on the roadside.

Mr. Chalamila said the issue of the presence of tourist hotels will be able to receive leaders from various countries and nations where he has asked the directors and district commissioners to look at how to collaborate with the owners of buildings in the city center such as the neighboring Hayyat Regency hotel so that all those buildings can be built as tourist hotels.

The Ilala District Commissioner, Mr. Edward Mpogolo, also speaking on behalf of the district commissioners of Kigamboni and Temeke, has promised the Regional Commissioner that they are going to supervise the implementation of the instructions he gave.

The Secretary General of the Tanzania Truck Owners Association [TAMSTOA], Mr. Issa John said the Kwala dry port should be further strengthened as it is the solution to trucks entering the city and causing congestion and has suggested that the ICD should be 30 kilometers from the city.
