TFS Commended for Promoting Bagamoyo

Bagamoyo District Commissioner, Mr. Shaibu Ndembe, has commended the Tanzania Forest Service (TFS) for its good work in developing historical tourism and environmental conservation, noting that these efforts have contributed to increasing the income of the people and attracting visitors to the district.

Mr. Ndembe made the commendations on June 25, 2025 during a reception for TFS Board Member, Ms. Piencia Kiure, who was on a second-day working visit to the Eastern Region to visit conservation areas in the districts of Bagamoyo (Coast) and Kinondoni (Dar es Salaam).

“I commend TFS for projects that bring direct benefits to the people. The rehabilitation of historical sites like Kaole and Bagamoyo Old Town not only preserves our heritage, but also stimulates local and international tourism,” said the District Commissioner.

While in Bagamoyo, Ms. Kiure visited the Kaole Ancient Museum and the Old Town of Bagamoyo, where she inspected various TFS projects including the construction of existing pedestrian walkways in Kaole, the renovation of historical offices in the Old Town and preparations for a new mangrove conservation project in Ras-Kilimoni (Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam).

While in the Ras-Kilimoni area which falls under Kinondoni District, Ms. Kiure was briefed on the various steps taken by TFS to protect mangroves, as part of the institution’s strategy to strengthen coastal ecosystems and combat the impacts of climate change.

Speaking immediately after the visit, Ms. Kiure thanked the Bagamoyo District government for its cooperation with TFS and stressed that the Board will continue to closely monitor the implementation of historical and environmental projects across the country.

“This partnership between TFS and local governments is the foundation of the success we are seeing today. It is our shared responsibility to develop these areas for the benefit of present and future generations,” said Ms. Kiure.

TFS Deputy Conservation Commissioner, Dr. Abel Masota, said the institution has carefully received the instructions and comments given by the leaders during the visit and will ensure its implementation is carried out on time and to the required standards.

The Bagamoyo District Commissioner said his district is in the initial stages of preparing a special film to promote Bagamoyo as an important tourist and historical attraction in the country.

The visit of the TFS Board Member for the Eastern Region aims to assess the implementation of conservation and tourism activities, while listening to challenges and suggestions from stakeholders in the relevant areas.
