The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the Government aims to connect 100,000 households to internet services through the Fibre-to-the-Home system within three years, while preparing an AI Strategy Framework that will guide the safe and responsible use of the technology.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this, September 29, 2026, while opening the Technology and AI Expo Zanzibar 2026 at the Golden Tulip Airport Hotel, Zanzibar, in conjunction with the launch of the Zanzibar Digital Policy 2026.
He said the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is committed to advancing digital transformation by strengthening infrastructure, increasing the use of technology in public services and the economy and creating an enabling environment for youth, innovators and investors.
At the event, President Dr. Mwinyi witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communications, Information Technology and Innovation Zanzibar and Huawei Technologies Tanzania Limited.
