Muhimbili National Hospital-Mloganzila has for the first time performed bone-correcting surgery using the Ilizarov technique on patients with bone deformities.
Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Dismas Cosmas said the surgery, which enables the correction and straightening of bones using this modern technique, aims to help those with bone deformities resulting from injuries or accidents and patients with congenital bone deformities, especially children.
The surgery was carried out in collaboration with the Orthocycle Foundation from Manchester, England, and the Tanzanian Nurses Association in the United Kingdom (TUHEDA United Kingdom).
Dr. Cosmas thanked the experts and institutions for making the exercise a success and explained that the collaboration will continue to strengthen specialist and specialist orthopedic services in the country.
