The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar will continue to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, air transport and the Blue Economy with the Republic of Kenya to increase economic opportunities and the welfare of the citizens of the two nations.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this, on July 27, 2026, at the State House in Zanzibar, when he met with the Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania, Hon. Catherine Karemu, who arrived to officially introduce herself following the commencement of her duties in the country.
In the conversation, President Dr. Mwinyi said that the relationship between Tanzania and Kenya is historical and brotherly, and has continued to be an important basis for strengthening trade, investment and cooperation in various development sectors.
He stressed the importance of standards institutions in the East African Community countries to work closely together to facilitate trade, and increase the competitiveness of products in the regional market.
President Dr. Mwinyi said the completion of the construction of Shumba Port, Pemba, along with the increase in direct flights between Zanzibar and Kenya, will enhance the movement of people and goods, increase trade, promote tourism and attract more investment.
He invited Kenyan private companies to take advantage of the opportunities available in Zanzibar in the tourism sectors, Blue Economy, seaweed farming and other strategic areas that contribute to economic growth and employment.
The Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania, Hon. Catherine Karemu has pledged to continue strengthening the existing partnership between Kenya and Tanzania, especially Zanzibar, by developing trade, investment and development opportunities for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
