Minister Mavunde begins tour of Geita region

Chato, Geita: The Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, has begun an official working visit to Geita region with the aim of reviewing the implementation of development projects, promoting economic activities and monitoring the implementation of Government directives aimed at improving the lives of citizens.

Hon. Mavunde, who is also the Guardian of Development Activities in Geita region, is expected to visit and review various strategic projects being implemented in the councils and districts of the region, in addition to talking to citizens about development opportunities and the contribution of the mining sector in growing the national economy.

On the first day of the visit, Minister Mavunde inspected a major water project worth more than 40 billion shillings, which is expected to benefit more than 185,000 citizens by providing them with clean and safe water services.

He said the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of the President. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued to invest in water projects to improve health, social welfare and increase productivity in production activities.

Speaking after inspecting the project, Mr. Mavunde said access to water is an important foundation for social and economic development, while urging contractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and at standards that meet the value of public funds.

In continuing to promote the development of the mining sector, Minister Mavunde also visited the youth project for the construction of a mineral processing plant, emphasizing that the Government will continue to create a friendly environment that will enable young people to fully participate in mining and value-adding activities.

He said investment in mineral processing and processing industries will increase the value of mineral resources in the country, create jobs for the youth and increase the sector’s contribution to the growth of the national economy.

Minister Mavunde has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Rwantaba Bridge, a project that is expected to improve transport and transportation infrastructure, facilitate business activities, connect production areas and markets as well as stimulate economic development for the people of Geita Region.

Geita Regional Commissioner Engineer Martin Shigela said the implementation of development activities in Geita Region is responding to the challenges of the people in a practical way and that the regional government is committed to ensuring that all development projects are completed on time.
