Dar es Salaam: The Acting Director of the Department of Forestry and Beekeeping, Mr. Daniel Pancrasi, has urged the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) to continue investing in the use of modern technologies to enhance forest conservation, increase the efficiency of service delivery and attract investment in the country’s forestry sector.
Mr. Pancrasi made the statement when he visited the pavilions and production areas managed by TFS at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) on July 12, 2026 where he commended the steps taken by the agency in the management of forest and bee resources.
He said the use of unmanned aircraft (drones) in identifying forest fire incidents and assessing forest resources has increased the efficiency of the management of these resources, while emphasizing the importance of continuing to invest in digital technologies.
“By using drones and other modern systems, we can quickly identify existing resources, obtain timely information and make more accurate decisions in forest management”, said Mr. Pancrasi.
In addition to technology, he commended TFS for the way it addresses the challenges and complaints of citizens, while urging it to continue to build the capacity of its staff to adapt to changes in modern work systems.
He said that understanding of guidelines, procedures and the use of technology among conservationists and executives at various levels is important in increasing the efficiency of institutions and improving services to citizens.
In another step, Pancrasi stressed the importance of increasing the production and use of quality tree seeds by educating citizens about their benefits in order to increase community participation in tree planting and environmental conservation activities.
He also called for more efforts to be directed at developing bamboo crops by distributing suitable species in various areas according to the relevant environment, explaining that this step will stimulate production, increase the value of forest products and open up more economic opportunities.
He said the Forestry Company has an important role in adding value to forest products, including bamboo, and enabling them to compete in local and international markets.
He urged TFS to strengthen the availability of quality seeds and monitor the use of seedlings distributed to citizens to ensure that they grow and produce the intended results, considering the costs incurred in their production.
In terms of eco-tourism, Mr. Pancrasi commended TFS executives for managing the tourism attractions found within forest reserves and urged them to increase efforts to attract more tourists through sustainable conservation of natural resources.
He stressed that the use of technology, the provision of education to citizens, the improvement of services and effective management of forest resources will continue to be important pillars in the development of the forestry and beekeeping sector in the country.
