CCM and ACT-Wazalendo issue joint declaration in Zanzibar

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the Joint Declaration between the Revolutionary Party (CCM) and ACT-Wazalendo paves the way for the implementation of the formation of a Government of National Unity and strengthening peace, unity, solidarity and development of Zanzibar.

President Dr. Mwinyi said this after witnessing the signing of the agendas agreed by both parties for work following the Joint Declaration of Political Agreement in Zanzibar between the Revolutionary Party (CCM) and ACT-Wazalendo at the State House in Zanzibar today, July 09, 2026.

President Dr. Mwinyi said the agreement shows the determination of the leaders to put the national interest first, while stressing that the Government will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that the process maintains stability, good governance and sustainable development.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has commended the move, explaining that the reconciliation opens a new page in strengthening unity, stability and solidarity among Zanzibari, and is a sign of political maturity and commitment to creating an environment of peace and development.

The Chairman of ACT-Wazalendo Taifa, Hon. Othman Masoud Othman has commended President Dr. Mwinyi for continuing the reconciliation process, saying it has paved the way for a lasting solution to the political challenges in Zanzibar.

The event was attended by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel John Nchimbi, Retired Presidents of Zanzibar, Hon. Dr. Amani Abeid Karume and Hon. Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein.

Others are the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdulla; Political party leaders, religious leaders, SMT and SMZ government leaders, heads of defense and security agencies, ambassadors, representatives of international institutions, as well as various citizens.
