Mining stakeholders urged to comply with the law

DODOMA: Mining sector stakeholders have been urged to comply with the laws, regulations and procedures governing mining activities to ensure that these resources continue to contribute to national development and benefit the citizens.

The Minerals Commission’s lawyer, Mrs. Janeth Kanyasu, said this at the ongoing Public Service Week Exhibition at Chinangali Park in Dodoma region where the Commission continues to provide education to citizens and various stakeholders on issues related to the Mining Sector.

She said the education concerns the Mining Act Chapter 123 and its regulations, including the issuance of various licenses, mining business, investment, mining activities and environmental management to ensure that mineral resources are used productively and in accordance with the requirements of the law.

“Complying with the laws and procedures set is the basis for ensuring that the Mining Sector is run with transparency, fairness and continues to provide benefits to the nation and the citizens”, said Mrs. Kanyasu.

He also said that citizens are being educated about the Government’s involvement in mining activities, the involvement of Tanzanians in the sector through the Tanzanian Participation in the Mining Sector policy and the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects implemented by mining companies.

According to Kanyasu, the Mining Commission continues to provide clarification on the payment of various royalties and levies required by law, including Service Levy, HIV Levy, three percent construction mineral royalty, six percent metallic minerals and one percent inspection fee.

This year’s Public Service Week exhibition is guided by the theme, “Promoting Inclusive Responsibility for Sustainable Services”, and is expected to conclude on June 23, 2026.
