Ambassador Matinyi presents credentials to Algerian President

The new Tanzanian Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Mobhare Matinyi, has presented his credentials to the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, His Excellency Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at a ceremony held at the State House in Algiers, on June 10, 2026, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic duties in the country.

In their brief conversation during the ceremony, Ambassador Matinyi conveyed gratitude to President Tebboune, the government and people of Algeria on behalf of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, for maintaining the cordial bilateral cooperation between the two countries that has lasted more than six decades.

Speaking to the media following his audience with President Tebboune, Ambassador Matinyi said they discussed on the way forward on tangible achievements in the defense and higher education sectors to ensure that the people of both countries draw significant benefits therein.

Ambassador Matinyi further highlighted that the sectors he discussed with the president that necessitate immediate focus include agriculture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining and tourism as well as increasing collaboration in science, technology, research and culture to improve the close cooperation between the people of both countries.

“I have been tasked by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to ensure that the bilateral cooperation between these two countries benefits the people of our two nations, and I must stress that success in that regard is guaranteed by the pragmatic leadership and visions of both our presidents”, said Ambassador Matinyi.

President Tebboune said, during their talks, that Algeria stands ready to cooperate with Tanzania in all vital sectors and will work tirelessly to effect further cooperation agreements through joint meetings and high-level visits as proposed by the ambassador.

Ambassador Matinyi becomes the fourth ambassador to represent Tanzania in Algeria after Ambassadors Omari Yussuf Mzee (2017-2020), Ambassador Major General Jacob Kingu (2020-2023) and Ambassador Imani Njalikai (2023-2026).

Tanzania’s embassy in Algieria also functions as Tanzania’s mission in Tunisia, Mauritania, Niger and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
