Discipline, patriotism should be the foundation of law students’ success – Ridhiwani

DAR ES SALAAM: The Minister of State, President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Ridhiwani Kikwete, has urged law students in the country to build their careers on the foundations of discipline, creativity and patriotism so that they can compete in the increasingly competitive international job market.

Mr. Ridhiwani made the call, while speaking at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law’s Career and Professional Day held in Dar es Salaam.

He said professional success in today’s world cannot be achieved without professionals being able to compete outside their countries while adhering to work ethics, especially discipline, patriotism and expertise in their fields.

“It is important for law students to understand that their careers require not only legal knowledge, but also ethics, discipline and patriotism that will help them become competitive professionals and make a positive contribution to the nation”, said

Mr. Ridhiwani briefed the students on the steps taken by the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of Samia Suluhu Hassan in strengthening the legal and justice sector in the country.

He said the government has continued to make various reforms including improving the justice system, increasing the use of technology in the provision of legal services, investing in justice infrastructure and encouraging the use of alternative dispute resolution systems.

According to Mr. Ridhiwani, these improvements aim to enable lawyers and administrators of criminal justice institutions to carry out their duties more effectively, in parallel with creating a better environment for the delivery of justice in the country.

He stressed that a strong legal and justice sector is an important pillar in accelerating economic and social development, with legal professionals bearing a major role in protecting the interests of the nation and strengthening good governance.
