TANESCO CEO, Mr. Lazaro Twange, has said the 400 kilovolt transmission line project from Chalinze to Zuzu, Dodoma, is expected to be completed by August 18, 2026.
Speaking on May 20, 2026 during a visit to inspect the progress of the project in the Morogoro and Dodoma regions, Mr. Twange said the project is important because it transports electricity generated directly from the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Dam which passes through Chalinze to Dodoma.
He said the implementation of the project goes hand in hand with the expansion of the Chalinze and Zuzu, Dodoma power receiving and cooling stations, where its completion will improve the availability of electricity for investment activities as well as increase various economic opportunities in the country.
He said the Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has provided an amount of 514 Billion Shillings for the implementation of the Project which will stimulate various economic and social activities in line with the pace of increasing demand.
“Today we have inspected the electricity transmission route from Chalinze to Dodoma. This route is important because it increases the capacity to transmit electricity from the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Dam to various users. The population has increased and economic activities have increased so we have entered into an agreement now that this project will be completed on August 18, 2026,” emphasized Mr. Twange.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made while urging the contractor to increase the speed of implementation to ensure the project is completed on time.
“We have agreed to add enough experts and equipment to ensure this project is completed within the specified time,” he added.
Project Manager, Engineer Newtone Lingstone said the 345-kilometer project from Chalinze to Dodoma is 100% funded by the Government of Tanzania, with the expansion of the Chalinze and Dodoma power receiving and cooling stations progressing well.
The completion of the 400-kilowatt Chalinze to Dodoma power transmission line project will improve the availability of electricity not only in Dodoma Region, but in various parts of the country.
