The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has called for Tanzanians to unite in restoring national unity, emphasizing the importance of addressing existing divisions through dialogue and justice.
The Government will take immediate steps to establish a Reconciliation Commission, which will begin by conducting a thorough investigation into the various incidents that have occurred, in order to facilitate a National debate on how to restore equality and peace to the Country.
The Commission will also consider the report issued after the events of October 29, which has identified indicators of the presence of criminal suspicions, a step that makes the Government require a special investigative body as directed.
In addition, the Commission will address the issues of citizens who are missing or allegedly abducted and the investigation of bodies that have not been found, and those who died due to violence and unusual events.
It will also include a plan to assist the injured, including those with permanent disabilities, by providing them with medical assistance and assistive devices. The Government will also provide special attention to affected business owners to help them return to their normal lives.
“My Tanzanian brothers, unity is strength and division is weakness, I urge you, let us continue to strengthen our unity and solidarity, let us not give room to be disrupted by the enemies of our country”
“We will be deceiving ourselves if we do not tell the truth that what happened on October 29 shook our nation, it really shook us, we Swahili say that losing our way is knowing the way, we have touched the hot coals and we have learned, the Commission has said that the investigation has revealed that the violence was planned, coordinated, financed and carried out by people with training and the goal was to disrupt the elections”
Those hurt by the events of October 29, 2025 are Tanzanians and it is impossible for anyone other than a Tanzanian to be more painful than Tanzanians, where he has expressed surprise at the International Media that provided misleading information about the incident.
“There are those who used the results of October 29, 2025 to criticize us and point fingers at us, we were not very surprised because human perspectives are not the same, and there was a great distortion of the news of the event by the Media, especially foreign and international, in the tradition of Gentlemen when something of loss and heartbreak occurs, the expectation is to be comforted instead of comforted”
“In any case, those who were hurt by that event are us Tanzanians, we are the ones who lost our Children, we are the ones who lost our Brothers, it is impossible for someone other than a Tanzanian to be more painful than us Tanzanians, it is impossible”.
The efforts of the media to control the violence and chaos of October 29, 2026 are what has made Tanzania what it is today but otherwise we would be telling a different story.
“Political science experts present here and anyone with an understanding of the country’s leadership can contemplate what would have happened if the goals of the perpetrators of the violence had been achieved”
“Of course, the efforts of the agencies to control the violence and the violence are what has made Tanzania what it is today, otherwise we would be talking about a different story but this does not mean that for those who we find have violated the rules and procedures of their work that we will not hold them accountable, we will hold each other accountable”.
Democracy must be built by considering the Customs and Traditions of the respective countries, quoting the statement of the Father of the Nation Mwl. Nyerere that Democracy is not a soda bottle.
“Since Independence and even after the Union, Tanzania decided to follow the Democratic system, starting in 1992 we have decided to follow the Politics of Multi-Party Democracy, I remember Mwl. Nyerere once said and quoted that ‘Democracy is not a bottle of Coca-Cola that you can order, Democracy should be developed according to the Country itself, this is our belief’ Democracy must be built based on the Traditions and Cultures of the respective Country”
“Now let us leave it to build our Democracy on our own principles, our Traditions and Customs, when you handed over the Country to me through the 4R philosophy I took several steps including holding discussions with Political Stakeholders and leading to the amendment of several laws of our elections and Political Parties, another step is to allow the scope for doing Politics and promoting Freedom of the Media”.
There was a lot of information given incorrectly including the death figures of October 29, 2025 which aimed to exaggerate but today the correct figures have been given by the Commission of Inquiry.
“Following the violence, there have been many inaccurate reports, various groups and some individuals were providing figures on deaths and those affected without certainty, these figures were either intended to obscure or exaggerate the extent of the damage that occurred”
“Our elders said that when the truth is revealed, lies are separated, today we have received statistics that have been well analyzed by this Commission, the Commission has submitted its report based on a professional investigation and the truth has been established, the statistics on the number of dead, injured and those who suffered various injuries have been analyzed and submitted”
“We have heard the existence of claims from citizens who have not seen their relatives after the violence, I promise you that as the Commission recommended, the Government will continue to conduct a thorough and professional investigation so that we know these matters accurately”.
It is easy to lose peace but not easy to restore it and it is also easy to destroy a country but not easy to build it, so he has urged Tanzanians to build the country instead of destroying it.
“In the entire journey of development, challenges are inevitable, it is our responsibility to face them, it is not wise to turn challenges into reasons for violence and crime, what happened did not eliminate challenges but increased challenges, I urge Tanzanians to realize that it is easy to lose peace but not easy to restore it, it is easy to destroy a country but not easy to build it”
“Let us be careful that Tanzanians are the builders of the country, when we destroy it there is no uncle to help us, we will get conditional loans to build the country but when we destroy it we will get help to destroy the country”.
He is the same 4R and has not changed while asking Tanzanians to cooperate with him.
“While I was following the presentation of this report, I heard a sentence that said ‘we want our Samia that we know’ as if when I came in I was another Samia and now I am another Samia, I want to assure Tanzanians that I am the same Samia of the 4Rs, what I am asking for is your cooperation in implementing the 4Rs”
“They say one finger does not break a lice, if you rely on Samia alone to do it, it will not work but if you give me cooperation, my brothers, we will get where we are going, I ask that we all unite to decide the fate of the good future of our Nation, and not accept being manipulated and incited by activists to disrupt the peace of our country”.
