Tanzania gets the nod to host Miss World and AFCON 2027

Tanzania has begun preparations to host ‘Miss World’ 2027 after signing a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] and on April 20, 2026 signing the hosting agreement, in Dar es Salaam.

It has been stated that this is a historic step, the full costs that the Government will pay the Miss World Institute for hosting have not been made public but normally, organizing an event of this magnitude involves very high costs.

For example, recent reports of the major beauty pageant indicate that the costs could exceed $10 million to $30 million which is equivalent to Tsh. 26 to 80 billion for preparations and tourism promotions.

The plan is part of the government’s broader strategy to host major international events, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The decision follows the visit of Miss World CEO Julia Morley, accompanied by the current Miss World (Miss World 2025), Opal Suchata Chuangsri, to Tanzania recently to discuss the possibility of Tanzania hosting the event.
