WAF – Dar es Salaam: The Government of Tanzania has continued to show its commitment to strengthen specialist health services, especially neurosurgery, while thanking the Association of Brain Surgeons for choosing the country to host a large international gathering of experts in the sector.
Minister of Health Mr. Mohamed Mchengerwa said on April 16, 2026 while welcoming the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Second Meeting of the Federation of the Association of Brain, Spine and Neurological Surgeons, in Dar es Salaam
He said the Federation’s decision reflects the great confidence they have in Tanzania and recognizes the country’s ability to fully participate in improving neurosurgery services in the world. He noted that the conference is an important platform for sharing knowledge, experience and stimulating innovation aimed at improving health services.
Mr. Mchengerwa has emphasized that the Government through the Ministry of Health will continue to strengthen neurosurgery services to reach more people in the country and even in the African region. The move includes expanding services from national and regional hospitals to regional referral hospitals, with the aim of facilitating access to specialist services for citizens of various areas.
In support of these efforts, the government has invested in major strategic projects including the establishment of a Brain Science Center of Excellence at Mloganzila Campus, the expansion of outpatient services at Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI), as well as the installation of modern technologies for the diagnosis of neurological diseases.
“The construction of a modern rehabilitation center (rehabilitation) in Bunju is part of the strategy to ensure that patients get full services from examination, treatment to monitoring their health”, said Mr. Mchengerwe
