Tanzania to export electricity to Uganda

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba has met with Experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss the implementation status of Energy projects funded by the agency with the aim of ensuring that the projects are implemented on time and effectively.

The meeting was held on September 08, 2025 at the offices of the Ministry of Energy Mtumba in Dodoma where the two parties also discussed the issue of capacity building for experts from the Ministry of Energy, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) in matters of designing Natural Gas distribution networks.

The projects discussed in detail at the meeting are the Electricity Transmission from Tanzania to Uganda (UTIP) and the Dodoma Ring Circuit electricity project aimed at further improving the availability of electricity in Dodoma.

During the meeting, Engineer Mramba stressed to JICA the issue of implementing a pilot project for natural gas distribution in the Mtumba Government Town in Dodoma City which will be an example of the benefits of natural gas discovered in the country which will also help in the use of clean cooking energy.

Engineer Mramba thanked JICA for funding energy projects which have been a catalyst for development in the country especially in the City of Dodoma which continues to grow rapidly.
