Gemstone auction launched December 14, 2024 Mirerani, Manyara

▪️The goal is to add value ▪️To control evasion ▪️Sold at a competitive price

MANYARA: The Minister of Mines, Mr. Anthony Mavunde is expected to be the official guest at the auction of gemstones expected to be held in the small town of Mirerani in Simanjiro district in Manyara region with the aim of increasing the value of minerals.

The auction, which stopped for a while, is scheduled to be held again for the first time on December 14, 2024.

Speaking on December 12, 2024, Mr. Mavunde said that gemstones are being auctioned as a strategy to promote them and increase their value internationally.

Mr. Mavunde has said that the procedure for conducting the auction is the Government’s effort to control the smuggling of these minerals abroad and also to help the miners to sell their minerals at a competitive price in line with the world market.

He said, the auction will involve buyers from inside and outside the country and whoever buys the minerals in the auction will win the set price.

“This auction will be conducted with great security because these minerals, especially Tanzanite, are very valuable. The government has strengthened security to beware of unscrupulous people”, said Minister Mavunde.

He said that the auction will enable the Government to get the right royalties and taxes transparently in order to contribute to the national income and strengthen protection and security for sellers, buyers and their property.

Similar auctions are also held in African countries with precious stones such as Zambia (emerald), Zimbabwe (diamond) and South Africa (diamond).
