The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi on September 28, 2026, visited and inspected the construction progress of the Zanzibar Sports City (AFCON), Fumba, West District “B”, Unguja.
President Dr. Mwinyi inspected various infrastructure including a football stadium, training grounds, swimming pools and a Diving Pool, a Fan Zone with a capacity of 4,000 people and a port for small and large boats.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed on December 31, 2026, marking an important step towards Zanzibar becoming one of the hosts of the AFCON 2027 tournament.
