Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila, has ordered the arrest of the owner and builder of a building in Masaki after it was found that he built 13 floors instead of the six floors approved in the building permit.
Speaking on August 6, 2026, during a visit to inspect the enforcement of construction laws and procedures, RC Chalamila said the move aims to allow a professional investigation to determine if the foundation of the building was designed to support that number of floors.
He said experts should make a quick assessment of the safety of the building, while the owner and the builder will be held to legal action due to suspicions of violating the terms of the building permit.
RC Chalamila emphasized that the Government will not tolerate anyone who violates construction laws, explaining that strict measures will be taken against all who are found to be endangering the safety of citizens by building against the permits given to them.
