Dodoma: Following the implementation of the project to build a modern laboratory for the Geology and Mineral Research Institute of Tanzania (GST), the move is going to make Tanzania a hub for the provision of mineral laboratory services south of the Sahara Desert.
This was said today, July 15, 2026, by the Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde (Mb) when he visited and inspected the GST laboratory construction project located in Kizota, Dodoma City.
“We thank our President Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for agreeing to provide funds for the implementation of this modern project, which is going to make our country a leader and expert in the provision of mineral laboratory services”, he said
“This project is also going to make Tanzania a hub for the provision of laboratory services to East and Central African countries, due to the quality of these services being international” explained Minister Mavunde.
Minister Mavunde noted that for a long time, small-scale miners have been facing the challenge of testing their samples in laboratories, which has led to their inability to carry out their activities effectively.
Mr. Mavunde stressed that the arrival of the modern laboratory is going to be a solution to the challenges of miners, including serving more miners with international quality.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Mineral Research Institute, Engineer Ally Samaje explained that the construction of the laboratory project costs 14.3 billion shillings and is in various stages of implementation where it is expected to be completed by September, 2027.
He added that the laboratory, when completed, will be modern and will serve many customers both within and outside the country.
